Neuropsychological treatment

Living with neurological and cognitive symptoms can have a significant impact upon a person’s sense of identity, their relationships and their aspired-to goals. This can trigger feelings of loss, anxiety around the uncertainty of the future and stress around work and finances. It can make it more difficult to cope with every day life stressors.

The way anxiety and stress presents in the body can also have a huge influence on decision-making and behaviour. We all get stuck in patterns that might feel helpful in the here and now, but hook us away from our goals in the long-term. It is human nature to try to cope in the only ways we know how, perhaps drawing on what has been helpful in the past, but these coping strategies are not always workable as new challenges arise.

Neuropsychological treatment can be useful in supporting individual’s to develop new ways of coping. Cognitive rehabilitation may be aimed at developing compensatory strategies for managing the cognitive, emotional of behavioural symptoms associated with a neurological diagnosis, whilst therapy may support the psychological adjustment to living with a condition. Treatment appointments offer an opportunity to improve health-related quality of life, by aiding recovery or by developing skills that enable coping.

“The way Jess puts into words how and why we behave in certain ways, relating to evolutionary reasons has been so beneficial for my journey in better understanding my habits. I have benefited massively from this, coupled with tangible and accessible body-based techniques to help restore a sense of calm. This has given me the best foundation to tackle my way of thinking, helping my general anxiety, low self esteem, insomnia and recovery from cancer. Jess has provided me with a number of resources I refer to regularly which leave me with confidence about my journey forwards, beyond therapy. In all, Jess’ advice and guidance has been invaluable.”

“Working with Jess has been great. She's very personable and it feels very comfortable to speak to her. She's also incredibly knowledgeable about her field. Since working with her I've seen a huge improvement in symptoms and hope to continue working with her in the future.”
